Laboratory Officer / Research Technician at the EMBL Heidelberg
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg is seeking a laboratory officer / research technician in the Developmental biology unit.
The Developmental biology unit works on the ecology and functioning of marine microbial interactions, with a specific focus on symbioses in photosynthetic unicellular eukaryotes. We use advanced high-throughput single cell sorting, imaging, and sequencing techniques to investigate the diversity of phytoplankton symbioses in natural samples coupled to culture-based lab experiments focusing on the life cycle of targeted interactions.
The successful candidate will make original, scientific contributions to research projects in the laboratory, in particular to establish high-throughput plankton phenotyping. Participating in scientific expeditions is a possibility depending on the candidate’s profile.
Your role
- General lab management and organization: managing lab supplies, inventory, reagents, equipment, ordering, stocks and training manuals.
- Training new lab members in standard laboratory techniques and use of lab equipment, including genomics, flow-cytometry, phytoplankton culturing and microscopy.
- Developing protocols and conducting experiments in the area of standard molecular biology, genomics, microbiology, and imaging.
Contract duration: 3 years
Expected profile
- Candidates should be dynamic and highly motivated, with an appropriate degree from university or technical school (PhD prefered).
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as very good working knowledge in English.
